Birds Practice

Thought I'd practice my birds again.. some ok, some... humm not so great.. can really see I have a issue with overworking my lines.(bit of a parallell here??)

Blah day

Had a crappy day today with inspiration and everything.. blahhhhh. so here is my blah nothing brushpainting..

I was attempting some parrots, but they looked stupid. then I tried some leaves and they looked so lame I thought it best juat to stop.

Fish Practice

Carp and fish are a favoured subject area for brushpainting - so had a whirl at them.. Again a hard thing not to over detail or over do....

Release - FA

I went back to some of my past sketches and chose Release to see if I can do a Fast Art on it.. boy - its hard ( for me) not to go over lines or rework things. 

Its not great - but this was my first attempt at it.

I remember another exercise where we had to capture an expression with as little line work as we could - as well as under time pressure... heres my first try ( after years away from it)

Flash Art - Shout

After a bit of brushpainting and relaising I don't need to spend heaps of time creating something, I remembered an exercise we used to do in art classes - called speed art or flash art.

Basically - you had either 30 seconds, or 1 min or 2 mins ( dep on subject) to capture what you can in quick lines.  The idea is to get the impression, the movement...

so heres my first one...  a parent at a football match today yeling for thier little one to keep running.. whilst gurading thier eyes agains the sun.

Lotus 2

Another crack at a lotus.  This time with a little colour.. Might have to crack open my watercolour pencils!! ( oh the luxury!) The colour is a bit washed out on this scan.. oh well.

Another thing which is traditional is the water lilly lotus thing ( yes - I am really up there on terminology)This one is over done again. too many stroke lines.

Tiny Bird Brush Painting

There are a number of things which are traditionally painted or captured when brushpainting.  I'll have to find out what sort of bird this is - but its a cheeky little thing whcih usually hangs around on the bamboo...

I've over done this one - too many lines and too fussy.

Bamboo - Formal Picture

Not the end all and be all - but an end product of my practice.  It really does my head in that it can be done so quickly - its a must. Every stroke pre determined but flowing.  I have a LOOOONG way to go...

I've taken up my brush painting again - well - the black ink anyway. Its perfect for my time poor schedual. I can't agonise over lines or redo things - I need to empty my mind and just gowith the flow - literally.

Anyway - here are some practice strokes, trying to get the form right for the leaves.

Morgans first Model Plane

Morgan was so delighted to have built this - nearly by himself.

Although it didnt come with the engine noisebox, Morgan was happy to add these when it took its virgin flight...
